Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng has dealt the Premier League club a huge blow by stating his intention to join Bayern Munich.
The German international has endured a frustrating debut season at Eastlands, making only 16 Premier League appearances in an injury-blighted campaign.
Reports emerging from Germany state Boateng has already agreed a four-year deal with the Bavarian outfit even though the two clubs are yet to agree a fee.
The Citizens are holding out for £18.5 million while Bayern are only willing to pay £10.4m, the amount Boateng joined City for last summer from Hamburg.
“I want to join Bayern. They are number one in Germany and amongst the top six clubs in Europe,” the defender told Kicker at a Nike event held in Hamburg.
Boateng also hinted at a lengthy stay at Bayern by saying he wants his twin daughters to learn Bavarian.
“I want clarity on my future quickly. My twins will learn Bavarian,” he added.
The two clubs are still in negotiations with Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealing on Monday that he believes the transfer is a possibility.
Bayern have been busy in the transfer market since the end of the season and have already confirmed the signings of Manuel Neuer, Rafinha and Nils Petersen.
