West Brom winger Jerome Thomas feels that success in a cup competition could be in store for the Baggies in 2012.

While reiterating that at least maintaining the club’s mid-table status in the Premier League is a priority, the 28-year-old pointed to the success of Birmingham and Stoke in domestic cups this year as blueprints.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the former Arsenal youth player said: “I think with the influence manager Roy Hodgson has had and his experience, the way the season went, the right signings in the summer and a bit of luck, we can definitely push to stay in mid-table next season and not be in the relegation battle – and maybe push even higher.

“In the cups we’ve seen Birmingham do it and how well Stoke did. There is no way you can tell me those two teams are better than us.

“Of course that’s something we can aim for next season.”

Recently relegated Birmingham won the Carling Cup and Stoke made it to the FA Cup final before succumbing to Manchester City.

Thomas, who has made 57 league appearances for the Baggies since his 2009 arrival from Portsmouth, feels that the team has the quality to overcome any side in the country on their day.

“It’s been proven in past seasons it’s not always about money. We’ve definitely performed and beaten some of the teams with multi-million pound players.

“Those things give us confidence and with a good pre-season I’m sure we could start off flying next season.”

After the appointment of Hodgson as manager in Feburary, West Brom hit a rich vein of form and finished eleventh in the Premier League, the club’s highest finish for thirty years.
