Omar Jammeh and Ebrima Jammeh of Bundung Borehole were yesterday arraigned before the Special Criminal Court (SCC) in Banjul on criminal charges of murder and arson.
The two accused persons, father and son respectively were alleged to have willfully and unlawfully set fire to a house in Bundung Borehole in the Kanifing Municipality on the 4th of October 2010.
The accused persons were further alleged to have unlawfully caused the death of one Fatou Badjie by setting fire on her on the 4th of October, 2010 in Bundung Borehole in the Kanifing Municipality. When the charges were read to the accused persons, Omar Jammeh shouted on top of his voice, saying, ‘how can one set his own house on fire and burn his wife’.
At this point, the presiding judge, Justice Joseph Enwa Ikpala asked him to state his plea. The duo however denied the charges pressed against them. After taking their plea, principal state counsel, Aminchi Bwala applied for a short adjournment to enable the prosecution get the witnesses.
Meanwhile, the case was adjourned to the 16th of June, 2011 for hearing.
