Darren Bent believes that Aston Villa can cope with the potential exit of Ashley Young.

The England international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Birmingham-based club, and has been widely reported to be a target for Manchester United.

The ex-Sunderland man had in the past maintained that he had pleaded with Young not to make a move away from Villa, but now reckons the presence of Marc Albrighton means that club can cope without him.

“No one can ever question Ashley’s loyalty. He has stayed here for four or five years and has been brilliant,” said Bent, according to The Sun.

“But one player doesn’t make a team. If we lose Ash, then it’s a big chunk of the team missing – but we’ve got people who can step in and do well.

“Mark Albrighton came in this last season as a winger and was brilliant.

“Hopefully next season, if gets more of a run in the team, he will improve even more.”

Young made 39 appearances for Villa during the course of the season, scoring nine goals and creating 13 more.
