Lubango — The Angolan vice-president, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, arrived on Thursday at 9 a.m in Lubango city, southern Huila province, to open the 29th Plenary Assembly of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos was welcomed at Lubango “Mukanka” airport by the speaker of the National Assembly, António Paulo Kassoma, provincial governor of Huíla, Isaac dos Anjos, local government officials, clerics and other individualities.
After the official opening, the participants will discuss the recommendations from the meetings of the Managing and Executive Committees, which analysed, among other issues, the formulation of policies for the Parliament of the Community, actions that will continue until Friday, the last day of the session.
The 29th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum is being attended by 120 delegates from 11 of the 14 member states of the community.
The SADC Parliamentary Forum was established on September 8, 1997, during the Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, held in Windhoek, Namibia.
SADC comprises Angola, South Africa, Botswana, DR Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
