Luanda — The United Nations Organisation (UNO) is due to launch on June 08 a global campaign called “The stigma feeds HIV/AIDS”, designed to raise an awareness and mobilisation against stigma and discrimination in the work place.

According to the resident coordinator of the UN in Angola, Maria do Valle Ribeiro, the UN strives to ensure that the workplace is a model for HIV/AIDS, providing training to employees about the prevention of HIV/AIDS, treatment access and options for care, adopting policies that ensure a fair and respectful environment.

“The stigma and discrimination are often worse than the disease. These negative attitudes are fuel for the transmission of the disease and have greatly increased the negative impact associated with the epidemic”, she said.

The campaign “The stigma feeds HIV/AIDS” is an initiative of UN programmes and UN Cares and UN Plus system.
