Serign Modou Joof, the disaster coordinator of West Coast Region (WCR), has called on the people of WCR to take necessary measures to avoid the recurrence of last year’s disasters.
He said he has received this year’s rain forecast from the National Disaster Management Agency indicating that 2011 rains will be normal unlike last year’s, which was above normal rainfall. Joof made these remarks recently in his office during an interview with this reporter.
He stated that if adequate preventive measures are taken together the recurrence of last years’ scenario could be avoided. “Most of the disasters that occurred could have been prevented if people were mindful,” Joof stated, and therefore called on the people of the WCR to be steadfast in disaster prevention.
In conclusion, he advised the people who are building their houses to create drainage system for the easy passage of water.
