Sunderland have made a £12 million bid for the Manchester United trio of Darron Gibson, John O’Shea and Wes Brown, according to Skysports.com.
As Jordan Henderson is set to complete a £20m move from the Black Cats to Liverpool, the club are keen to re-invest the money, and are seemingly targeting the three United fringe players.
With the £16m signing of Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones nearing completion after the 19-year-old underwent a medical, United are thought to be considering the offer.
Both Brown and Gibson have seen their chances in the first-team limited this season, with Brown suffering a number of lengthy injury absences during his Old Trafford career and Republic of Ireland international Gibson facing tough competition in the centre of Sir Alex Ferguson’s midfield.
John O’Shea has also found himself on the fringes with Brazilian twins Rafael and Fabio fighting it out for the right-back slot vacated by Gary Neville’s retirement.
