7 June 2011 CHINGOLA yesterday came to a virtual standstill as hundreds of people including the second Republican President Frederick Chiluba paid their respect to the town's greatest footballer, Willie Phiri as he was laid to rest. The former Nchanga Rangers midfield maestro and coach was escorted to his final resting place at Chingola Central cemetery by multitudes who also included Sport, Youth and Child Development deputy Minister, Mundia Ndalamei and Sports director Bernard Nakacinda

MORE than 60 village headmen in Chief Madzimawe have pledged to rallybehind the candidature of President Rupiah Banda during this year’selections.

The resolution to back President Banda during this year’s electionswas arrived at the weekend during a meeting held at Chief Madzimawepalace grounds.

The traditional rulers unanimously resolved to support the candidatureof Mr Banda because of the numerous development projects he had initiated throughout Zambia.

The chief who also attended the meeting said the village headmenwere pleased with the successes the Head of State had scored duringhis three year tenure and would like to give him another five yearmandate of office to complete the projects.

“The village headmen themselves resolved that they are going tosupport Mr Rupiah Banda during this year’s tripartite electionsbecause of the many economic gains the country has recorded under hisgood leadership,” he said.

The traditional ruler has also taken a swipe at a named woman who isaspiring for the Kasenengwa seat for what he termed as a show ofdisrespect to the local leadership in the area.He accused the named woman of creating parallel structure in the chiefdom.
