PORT HARCOURT – A Police Inspector and a Corporal were shot dead in the early hours of Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
Confirming the sad development, the state Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ben Uguegbulam said the incident occurred under Eliozu flyover in Port Harcourt.
According to him, some unknown gun men suddenly opened fire on the Police patrol team under the fly over killing two of them on the spot while one other sustained severe gunshot wounds and was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state. Adding also that the hoodlums fled with the riffles of the deceased and injured policemen.
He said the Police had intensified investigation to track down those behind the brutal act and also recover the weapons.
His words, “at about 2330 hrs, Policemen of Distress 003 Patrol stationed under Eliozu flyover were attacked by unknown gunmen.
As a result an Inspector and a Corporal were shot and were confirmed dead at the hospital while one Police sustained serious gunshot injuries on the abdomen.”
“Investigation in progress to trace the culprits and recover their weapons please”.
