The Katsina State House of Assembly yesterday re-elected the incumbent speaker, Ya’u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo to continue to steer the ship of the House but replaced his deputy, Bilyaminu Mohammed Rimi. The House equally re-elected all their principal officers except the vocal member, Danlami Mohammed Kurfi, who was replaced with Bala Sani Yaya as the chief whip in what was seen as the continuation of  intrigues within the ruling People’s Democratic party (PDP. The elections which were conducted shortly after the inauguration of the sixth assembly in the state followed the nomination of the incumbent speaker by a member representing Ingawa Local Government, Bala Sani Yaya, which was seconded by Halilu Ibrahim Karofi of Dutsinma Local Government

The CPC has re-emphasised its resolve to remain a formidable opposition party in the country.Mr Rotimi Fashakin, National Publicity Secretary of the party, stated this in Abuja yesterday.

He said the party would not give in to attending meetings with other political parties as it could undermine its philosophy and ideology.Fashakin spoke against the backdrop of the recent meeting of PDP with other political parties in Abuja.

He added that CPC would only attend meetings that were in the best interest of Nigerians and the overall development of the country.

“We are not really ready to attend a meetings in which we will be embarrassed; in which our teeming supporters will be embarrassed.

“If it was to further our national discourse about Nigeria and ensuring that the welbeing of Nigeria is adequately taken care off, of course, we are in for it.

“But if it is to galvanise interest for the proposed government of national unity, we say no, we are not going to be part of it.

“We have made our position clear, unambiguously clear, unequivocally clear and we remain irrevocable to that position that CPC will not be part and parcel of any government of national unity in whatever guise or form’’ Fashakin said.

He said CPC had been the only opposition party in the country even before the April elections.

He said most political parties had fussed into the ruling party before the election as they adopted its presidential candidate.

He said other political parties were extension of the ruling party, adding that the CPC was  not an appendage to PDP and wished to remain so. (NAN)
