Bolton Wanderers are believed to have placed a £17 million price-tag on their star defender Gary Cahill.

The 25-year-old has made well over a 100 appearances for the Trotters and has broken into the England national team due to his positive showings under the guidance of Owen Coyle.

Past reports point towards the former Burnley boss being in line to sell his prized asset, but now The Sun reports that a £17m exit clause exists in the player’s contract.

This would allow the former Aston Villa man to hold talks with any club that match or better that sum and, according to the report, the Trotters do not want to settle for less if they are to sell this summer.

Arsenal’s chase of Cahill is believed to be heavily dependent on whether or not they are able to sign Phil Jones from Blackburn Rovers, while Manchester City are reported to have resurrected their interest in the stopper.
