Arsenal target Peter Odemwingie set to hold contract talks with West Brom

West Bromwich Albion are set to discuss a new deal with in-form striker, Peter Odemwingie.

The Nigerian international has been linked in recent weeks with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, however according to his representative, contract talks with his current club are set to begin this week.

Odemwingie enjoyed a superb campaign, scoring 15 goals and helping the club remain in the top-flight, following his arrival from Lokomotiv Moscow before the start of the season.

According to skysports.com, Odemwingie’s representative David Omigie said: “West Brom are saying they want to keep Peter and agree a new deal and they know Peter is happy there so hopefully all parties can come to an agreement.”

The Baggies manager Roy Hodgson is keen to hold on to his prolific goal scorer, after finishing eleventh this season and staving off relegation, however it seems the door remains open.

Despite the club rescheduling Odemwingie’s first meeting, the Nigerian and his representative remained positive and spoke of the next meeting and the interest he has been garnering from bigger clubs.

Odemwingie stated: “A few days ago, I was supposed to have a meeting with the West Brom leadership on the current contract. However, it did not take place and the meeting has been rescheduled for the next couple of days (with his representative).”

Omigie went on to add: “When top clubs like Arsenal or Chelsea show interest in you it is flattering.”

“It is a big opportunity to play for a club in the Champions League and it is something any player would have to consider.”
