A former Special Assistant to erstwhile President Olusegun Obasanjo on Special Duties, Chief Tunde Olusunle has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint his Chief of Staff from the North-central zone.
Olusunle, who spoke to newsmen in Lokoja yesterday, said Kogi, his home state, should be considered for the position of the Chief of Staff, arguing that “the issue of the Senate President coming from the North Central does not arise, since the South East also has produced the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Deputy Senate President”.
Olusunle, who is also the spokesman of Okun Interest Group, said: “The Presidency, from 1999 to 2007 was very deliberately sensitive to Nigeria’s socio-cultural diversity and the need to ensure the inclusiveness of the various geo-political zones. The Okun people in Kogi State (North Central) are looking up to President Jonathan to begin the process of healing the wounds of extreme marginalization by recognizing some of their people for appointments beginning from the position of COS”.
According to him, “given the president’s commitment to search for the very best of Nigerians to assist him in his reform and transformation agenda, he will find a number of Okun people most fit for the position of Chief of Staff.”
