THE Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (NORED) recently launched its safety awareness campaign, aimed at sensitising the public on the dangers associated with electricity, to prevent people from being electrocuted in their homes or elsewhere.
According to NORED’s Liaison Officer Herman Ngasia, the official launch of the programme was done by the Kavango Regional Governor Maurus Nekaro, at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango region last week.
Ngasia said that the programme which, so far, has only covered the Caprivi and Kavango regions, is expected to continue in some parts of the central north of Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati and Kunene regions.
According to Ngasia there are many people, especially the young ones who have been seriously maimed in the central and eastern regions after they were playing with electricity while some have even been killed in the process. Because of all these, Ngasia said, NORED has found it fit to launch a campaign to safe people’s lives.
