Nana Konadu Agyeman RawlingsThe Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, one of the two contenders for the NDC flagbearer slot, has been grilled by the NDC vetting committee.

The Former First Lady answered questions bordering on her suitability and preparedness to lead the party into the 2012 general elections.

Speaking to Citi News reporter Richard Mensah at the party headquarters, Mrs Rawlings said the vetting was “smooth although the process took too long.”

President John Evans Atta Mills will face the committee tomorrow Wednesday June 8.

The party’s vetting committee is chaired by a former co-Chairman of the party, Alhaji Issifu Ali. Other committee members include Majority leader Cletus Avoka, Member of the NDC legal team, Larry Adjetey, Dr (Mrs) Mary Grant, Chris Ackummey and Lionel Molbila, a former Upper West Regional Minister.

A source from the Committee has told Citi News that both candidates will be passed.

According to the source, the committee would seek to satisfy itself about the individual’s contribution to the party and ask some questions on why the individual wants to lead the party.

The Party goes to Congress on July 8 in Sunyani to elect a flagbearer to lead the NDC party to election 2012.

Earlier, there were clashes between placard-bearing supporters of both President Mills and Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. Nana Konadu’s supporters have accused the party leadership of scheming to make life difficult for her in her quest to lead the NDC into election 2012
