Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kevin Doyle is looking forward to the club’s third successive season in the top flight, and is keen to stress that the side deserve their place amongst the Premier League’s elite.
“We stayed up, it may have been by the tightest of margins, but we stayed up,” said Doyle, speaking to Wolves official website.
“And that means we deserved it over the course of the season.”
Doyle, believes that Wolves deservedly held on to their top-flight status thanks to a number of victories they picked up against the Premier League’s leading lights, such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, and also because they improved upon the points total they achieved in their debut season.
“I do believe we deserved it because some of our performances, especially against the bigger teams, were fantastic,” added the Republic of Ireland international.
“We got more points than last season and it most years that would have been enough with a couple of games to spare.
“So that was an improvement – the only problem was that everyone else was a lot better as well!
“It was a tough season and we did let ourselves down in a couple of games but I think we made up for it in others.”
Doyle is in no doubt that Wolves will need to improve once more next season, and that he would like to improve on a personal level again, after a season largely disrupted by injuries.
“It was certainly always interesting, albeit a bit frustrating in that I picked up more injuries than I usually do.
“I missed bits at the start, the middle and the end!
“But I still managed to play a lot of games and it was nice to have another season in the Premier League and to survive there because obviously no one ever wants to get relegated.
“I’d give it a six-and-a-half out of ten for me this season.
“It probably wouldn’t quite be as much as last season because it was injury free and I played right to the end but overall it was positive enough and I enjoyed it.”
