AN argument that apparently started last Wednesday came to a brutal end on Friday, when a 29-year-old man allegedly killed his girlfriend in their home at Swakopmund’s Mondesa single quarters.
A person who informed The Namibian of the incident said that it was “too gruesome to go into detail”.
“I’m just telling you about it. I’m not interested in the details,” the person said.
According to Police Deputy Commissioner Marcellus Maretshane, the couple were allegedly arguing since Wednesday. On Friday morning, the man “snapped” and stabbed his girlfriend, Lucia Neliwa (30), with a knife in her neck before repeatedly beating her with a steel object. She died at the scene.
According to Maretshane, the man then apparently drank “battery acid, or something poisonous” in an attempt to commit suicide.
He was arrested and taken to the Swakopmund State Hospital where he is recovering under Police custody.
“He is coughing up blood, so his condition is serious but he will survive. Once he is discharged, he will appear in court on a charge of murder,” Maretshane said.
It is believed that the man and Neliwa had a child together, but that the child was not with them at the time of the murder.
