Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is refusing to rule out a return to the club for Mauro Boselli after he spent the second half of the season on loan at Genoa.

Boselli was the club’s marquee signing last summer, arriving from Estudiantes for £6 million but he failed to make a major impact in the early months of the season.

The striker scored just one goal in 12 appearances before being sent out on loan to Serie A club Genoa in January where he found the going a little easier, scoring two goals in seven games.

Martinez has admitted that he wants to sit down and talk with the striker to try and find out what might be best for both parties.

He told Sky Sports: “Mauro is back from Genoa and he needs a rest first of all.

“He is a proven goalscorer, though, and that will never change. They are the hardest players to find.

“We’ll sit down with him and find out how he found his time in Italy.

“Then we’ll work out what the next step will be for all parties.”
