Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has suggested he would find it difficult turn down a £45 million bid from Chelsea for Javier Pastore.
Zamparini had previously claimed that the Blues submitted a mega bid for the Palermo playmaker but the club supremo revealed on Monday that he is yet to hear of a £45m offer arriving from Stamford Bridge.
“How could anyone turn down €50m cash for Pastore? I never saw such an offer,” he said, according to Il Giornale. “Do you think if they put that money on the table, that I would throw it away?
“I don’t know if Chelsea ever made this offer. It might’ve been to his agent, but it never reached me. If it did arrive, then I would think about it carefully.”
Zamparini went on to admit his belief that Pastore could play for some of Europe’s top clubs, including Premier League champions Manchester United.
“Pastore is a player worthy of top clubs, like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Milan or Inter,” added Zamparini.
“He is tied to the Palermo jersey, but he also looks at his wallet. How can I keep a player when elsewhere they are offering four times his current wages?
“We have already mapped out two teams with our new coach Stefano Pioli: one with Pastore and one without.”
