Athletics Federation of Nigeria president, Solomon Ogba at the weekend noted that the federation was bearing a huge financial burden running the AFN Golden League.
But according to him, his board has no option than to continue. This is with the hope of keeping the sport alive in Nigeria. Ogba argued that lack of competitions would have deliver the final nail on the coffin of athletics.
“We are bent on running the golden league. Though we have had pockets of sponsorships, but it is just a drop in the ocean of what we require to keep the golden league going. The AFN has to make up for the short fall.
“We can’t sit back and watch. We have to run these meets in continuation of our efforts to revive athletics in Nigeria,” said Ogba.
