Liverpool have made an increased offer of £18.5 million for Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson, according to The Mirror.
The bid is reportedly an advance of more than £5m on the Merseysiders’ opening offer for the 20-year-old, and emphasises Kenny Dalglish’s eagerness to tie up the deal before the England Under-21s’ European Championship campaign starts in Denmark next week.
The Liverpool hierarchy have identified Henderson as a top target as they look to reinvigorate their squad with top young talent and regain Champions League football next season.
Sunderland are resigned to losing Henderson, who has won the club’s Young Player of the Year award two years running and earned his first full England cap this term, but are determined to extract the largest fee possible from any possible buyer as they look to provide manager Steve Bruce with funds to invest in the squad this summer.
The player himself is understood to be confident the move will go through soon, and is waiting to be told to go to Liverpool to finalise the deal and undergo a medical.
