The criminal trial involving the state against Ensa Badjie, ex-inspector general of police (IGP) and Tijan Badjie, an ex-prosecutor, on Tuesday proceeded at the Banjul Magistrates Court, presided over by acting Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe.
When the case was called, Musa Suso, the third prosecution witness (PW3) continued his testimony, and he informed the court that whilst he was in prison he was subjected to a lot of pressure to change his statement by the first accused, Ensa Badjie to say that it was Burama Dibba and Benedict Jammeh who used him until he was transferred to Janjangbureh prison.
He revealed that sometime in 2010 he was summoned to the prison commissioner’s office that the first accused made a complaint about him and he told them that he did not do it because the prisoner that the first accused said was not in the same area with him. He further told the court that the commissioner of Prisons, Ousainou Colley, told him that he (PW3) had to change his statements if not he would suffer, adding that after that his visitors were stopped until when he told the judge who was presiding his case, who made an order to that effect.
During cross-examination by the defence counsel for the first accused, Lawyer Lamin K. Mboge, PW3 said he did not know about the first accused being the police commissioner of West Coast Region at any given time.
At that juncture, the case was adjourned to 6th June 2011 for continuation of cross-examination.
