The 25-year-old’s recruitment will reportedly be funded by the £75m budget set for manager Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli to reinforce the squad this summer.
According to News of the World, the Reds’ boss wants to spend £42m on Aston Villa’s Stewart Downing, Blackburn’s Phil Jones and Blackpool’s Charlie Adam.
Comolli has on his wishlist Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson and Ipswich’s Connor Wickham both valued at £15m and £10m respectively.
However, Ashley Young could be leaving Villa for Manchester City for £15m instead of heading to Anfield.
One player reportedly exiting the club, however, is Daniel Agger after Bayer Leverkusen offered £10m for the Danish defender with Hamburg and Malaga also having expressed interest.
