Ghana midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng has returned to Italy to continue treatment on a nagging toe injury which nearly ruined his season.

Keen to prove that he was not intentionally dodging the Black Stars’ home matches, the German-born player arrived in Ghana last week for the game against Congo.

Boateng played in the first half of Friday’s game in Kumasi only to be substituted after the break.

His performance on the day showed that he has not fully recovered from the toe problem.

Coach Goran Stevanovic has now excused Boateng from the punishing travel schedule to South Korea for medical attention

The player has now been allowed to return to his base in Italy for further checks on the injury.

He will go on a holiday with his family before returning to AC Milan for the start of the pre-season.

There had been suspicion over his commitment to the Black Stars after mysteriously missing several matches after the World Cup.

The backlash from the Ghanaian media forced several messages from AC Milan insisting on the player’s dedication to the country.
