Zanzibar First Vice-President Seif Sharrif Hamad has said the government will continue to value and take good care of its retired officials.Speaking with a committee of retired public servants in his Migombani office, Mr Hamad pointed out that the government will not disrespect them as they have great contributions to make to the country.

“We acknowledge the importance of your contribution to the community and basing on that the government will continue to create a conducive environment to enable you lead decent lives even after retirement,” he said. He said it was disappointing to see a person who had spent his hey day working for the government and the nation leading a miserable life after retirement.”To take good care of retired civil servants is the best way of showing that you value their contribution,” he stressed.

He promised the committee that the government will continue to work on problems which they were facing. He urged them to remain active by finding something to do as some of them have considerable expertise which they could put into good use. “You should also find more members to strengthen your community as there were many retired people around,” he said.
