Luanda — The Angola Basketball Federation (FAB) needs about one million US Dollars to prepare the national team for the 2011 edition of the African Basketball Championship (Afrobasket2011), set for August 17-28 in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

The information was released to journalists Thursday in Luanda by FAB secretary general, Tony Sofrimento, during a ceremony of announcement of the national team players for the Afrobasket2011.

The official said FAB is awaiting the fund to launch the programme that will include preparation games in France, Portugal and China.

Tony Sofrimento said the Ministry of Youth and Sports is aware of the needs and is thus awaiting the release of the funds.

Angola’s national team and ten-time African champion will defend the title in the Afrobasket2011 and thus secure participation in the Olympic Games of London. The programme of preparation will start in northern Cabinda province on July 16, going until August 10.
