Abuja — After the 4-1 drubbing of Argentina, Coach Samson Siasia has set his eyes against world champions Spain saying such test would be worthwhile if more sponsors can bring them on.
The proposition, if it gets desired support would be a sell out for Nigerian football fans whose appetite for first grade soccer action has taken a nudge following the victory.
Siasia is also reeling in the big victory which he sees as a sweet revenge against Argentina that has at different tournament cut short his happiness with some painful defeats.
“Yes, I can say that I have taken my pound of flesh against Argentina because we have not beaten them at this level and at junior level and Olympics they stopped me from winning the gold. But here I think we have cancelled all the goals and are now on level terms. It is sweet revenge for me. But we have to remain focused; we were here when the coach said that he came with a good team,” he said.
Siasia said that he is not bordered whether or not the team that came was a second string just as he gave his lads kudos for the tactical discipline they exhibited during the game despite the limited time they had to come together as a team.
He said that the focus now is how to ensure that the team win the big one against Ethiopia on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, says 4-1 victory would give Eagles the needed boost and confidence to face Ethiopia in the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier in Addis Ababa on Sunday.
He said beating Argentina with such margin was a big boost for the team’s confidence.
“It’s a very good result for us. Let’s not take anything away from the importance of this win.We now have a lot of confidence going to Ethiopia. We are going there to win the game,” he said.
“We know that the game in Ethiopia ill not be easy, it will be tough but we will go there and do our best,” Yobo said.
Man of the match Ikechukwu Uche agreed with his skipper saying, “This is a big morale booster for us. We did very well. We started well, we gained confidence with the early goal and we could have scored more goals,” said Ike Uche.
“This result will help us to prepare for Sunday’s game. It will lift our confidence and we will keep working very hard to keep making the fans happy.”
