Moran Publishers Now in Uganda

Kenya’s Moran Publishers East Africa which last December acquired Macmillan Publishers (Kenya) has now set its eyes on the regional market following the acquisition of Macmillan Uganda.

The company which specialises in atlases, revision books, wall maps, charts and dictionaries is slowly becoming a key player in the East Africa book market by buying out Macmillan interests in the region.

Macmillan has been a major player in the East African Market and Moran’s acquisition in Kenya and Uganda provides a transition from foreign owned publishers to indegenous ownership.

“We are pleased to complete this sale to Moran Publishers as a means of empowering strong and locally-directed educational businesses in Africa,” said Macmillan Chief Executive Officer Annette Thomas after the Uganda deal.

She said the Ugandan market will provide great opportunities for Moran Publishers to have a substantial presence in East Africa.

“After well over 30 years of distinguished educational publishing for Ugandan school, the company is now well-placed to move forward under the direction of its local management and ownership of Moran Publishers, ” said Moran Publishers Managing Director David Muita:

He said Moran is building on the legacy of Macmillan of developing local capacity, through training and hands-on experience, which has produced some of the most skilled publishing executives across Africa and beyond. “We assure our clients in Kenya and Uganda and the entire East Africa Community that we will maintain the high quality standards previously associated with Macmillan brands,” he said.
