Park Ji-Sung will open discussions with Manchester United over a contract extension before the start of the 2011-12 season, according to The Telegraph.

The 30-year-old South Korean midfielder, who arrived back in his homeland on Tuesday following Saturday’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona, is contracted with the Red Devils until June 2012.

The former PSV Eindhoven man is keen to remain at Old Trafford and will enter into talks when he returns for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States in August.

“Manchester United are an important club and I am happy if I’m seen as an important part of the club,” Park said.

“In football anything can happen, but I’ve been here six years and I like this club.”

Park has become an increasingly important figure for United during the 2010-11 season, making 28 appearances and scoring eight goals, including crucial strikes against Arsenal and Chelsea.

It is rumoured that Park, who has retired from international football, will be offered a two-year contract extension to remain at Old Trafford.
