Chief Government Pathologist Dr Moses Njue appeared to question claims that Wanjiru plunged to death from the balcony at his home. He, however, declined to address journalists at the police station, with lawyers for the athlete and his mother later issuing contradicting statements.

Nairobi — World 800 metres record holder David Rudisha is targeting a return to the track at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting on June 30.

The 2010 IAAF World Athlete of the Year is currently in Tuebingen, Germany, for specialised medical treatment.

Rudisha was buoyant as he spoke to the Daily Nation on Wednesday, saying that his nagging muscle injury was behind him and he was only keen on regaining full fitness.

“I would have raced in Rome (last week), but I only decided to be cautious and see how the injury would react to sprinting on my own.

“But I would have run there. I am OK, but just wanted to be sure,” he said.

This is the second time that Rudisha has been slowed down by an injury on his left foot.

In 2008, he missed out of Kenya’s Beijing Olympics trials because of a tendon injury.

Olympic Games silver

But he came back and made the team to Berlin World Championship the following year, but poor running tactics saw him miss out of the final, a move that prompted him to shift to front-running.

“I was frustrated by both competitions. I want to be a legend in athletics, just like my father.

“But that will not be possible if I do not win a gold medal at the Daegu World Championships (in August) and the London Olympics.

“That is my target – to win gold for Kenya in the two events,” said Rudisha.

The world record holder’s father, David Rudisha, was in Kenya’s team that won a silver medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.

The senior Rudisha was in the quartet that also had Munyoro Kamau, Naftali Bon and Charles Asati.

The junior Rudisha is certain that his injury nightmare will be over ahead of his Diamond League debut this season in Lausanne.

“Be assured, I will be ready for the world championships. There is nothing more, which inspires me than to compete at the world championship,” he said.

Apart from Rome, Rudisha also pulled out of the Doha Diamond League race in May and Tuesday’s World Challenge meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
