The Conference of Proprietors of Private Universities in Nigeria, CPPUN, has stressed the importance of curriculum development, post graduate training, research and other matters of special policy and practical interest to the Nigerian university system.
CPPUN stated this in a statement at the end of a conference for members in Lagos.
The body, according to Chairman Board of Trustees, Crescent University, Abeokuta, Judge Bola Ajibola, SAN, who chaired the event, resolved that since private universities contribute to the enhancement of the standard of education in Nigeria, especially through closing the widening gap of student applicants into the Nigerian universities, there was need for its (CPPUN) recognition by relevant authorities.
Lead City University accreditation impasse was discussed at the conference and the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Jide Owoeye, assured that it will soon be resolved.
Consequently, three representatives of the conference were nominated to formally meet with the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) ‘secretary, Professor Julius Okojie, in resolving the issue.
The secretary of the conference Professor Eghosa Osaghae said there were deliberations on the need to institutionalize the legal and structural framework of the conference, noting that the final draft of the proposed constitution was being fine-tuned as part of the registration process with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
