Stoke City have announced the release of three players, including veteran striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Along with Gudjohnsen, who failed to make an impression at the Britannia Stadium, the Potters have allowed Senegalese defenders Ibrahima Sonko and Abdoulaye Faye to leave the club.
Former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Gudjohnsen, 32, had joined Stoke from Monaco in 2010 but was sent out on loan to Fulham for the second half of the season.
Senegal defender Faye, 33, had been with the club throughout their three-year stay in England’s top flight and boss Tony Pulis was full of praise for his contribution.
“Abdy’s contribution to getting the club where it is today should never be underestimated,” Pulis told the club’s official website.
“He loved playing for this football club and the supporters loved him, so in many respects it is sad to see him move on.
“But we are moving forward as a club and unfortunately there are times when you have to make tough decisions that allow you to bring in the new faces which can improve the squad, and this is obviously one of them.”
Pulis added: “We would like to thank Abdy, and both Ibrahima and Eidur for their contribution during their time here with us and wish them all the very best for the future.”Â
