CITING mischief, Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state was guilty of the alleged plot to doctor electoral materials used for the April 26 governorship polls in the state.
The ACN had earlier accused the PDP of attempting to doctor the materials to prevent the ACN governorship candidate, Dele Belgore, from carrying out proper and detailed inspection, copying and making of forensic examination of the materials as ordered by the polls petition tribunal in the state.
But the state PDP chairman, Ishola Balogun-Fulani, alleged in Ilorin on Monday that the ACN and not the PDP was guilty of the allegation.
Balogun-Fulani, who noted that the materials were in the custody of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, argued that the PDP could not attempt to doctor them because the party had, like ACN, obtained relief of the tribunal to inspect and make copies of the materials.
He said further that while the PDP secured additional relief that it be present at any time the ACN was inspecting the materials, the ACN did not obtain this relief.
He argued that based on this, it was the ACN that could be planning to doctor the materials to prevent the PDP from inspecting and copying the materials successfully.
Balogun-Fulani, who described ACN’s allegations as fallacious, said the party was intentionally making the claims to create the impression that it had a serious issue to tackle with the PDP at the tribunal.
He further assured that his party would not frustrate the governorship election petition tribunal from successfully carrying out its assignment.
