Elected administrators, village heads and religious leaders were urged to enhance their participation in efforts to the realization objectives of the Ministry of Health.

The head of the Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka, Dr. Leul Banteyirga, called on the elders to enhance their participation in doing away with harmful social practices, as well as ensuring mother and child health.

Noting that the total percentage of mothers doing antenatal checkups in Gash-Barka region is only 46% and that 24% deliver at available health centers, Dr. Leul called for the participation of the elders in endeavors to increase the numbers.
