PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda’s call for the need to prioritise and focus on the provision of education should be supported by all well-meaning Zambians.
This is so because the need for education in a country like Zambia to develop fast cannot be over emphasised.
The Government has shown its commitment to cater for the population with the proper basic education as its primary goal and it has so far taken various measures to improve the education system in Zambia.
The provision of education and skills development through training that will lead the country towards attaining the vision of becoming a prosperous middle-income earner by 2030 has been one of the key goals of the Government.
This is indeed worth supporting because education forms the basis for the development of any nation.
The Government has already taken important steps to make primary education available to all children between three years and 10 years.
Its long-standing goal has been that every child who enters grade one should be able to complete grade nine.
The girl-child is also not lagging behind in education. The literacy rate among girl-children is also going up in Zambia.
The Government has gone a step further by including education in its development plans out of the realisation of importance of the role of education in poverty reduction and the need for early childhood education.
Zambian citizens should therefore support the Government in its quest to improve the well-being of the ordinary citizens through education at all levels of society and fulfill Zambia’s development vision.
