Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has denied reports linking the club with a £9 million bid for West Ham striker Carlton Cole.
It was claimed that the Potters had made a club record offer for the England international, but Coates insists there has been no contact with the relegated club.
“Those reports are unfounded and it is not the case whatsoever,” he told BBC Radio Stoke. “We’ve not made a single bid in any way, shape or form.”
This is the second summer in a row that Stoke have been linked to the 27-year-old striker, and Cole is just one of a number of names rumoured to be a target for the FA Cup finalists.
Coates has also insisted that the club will not make a move for Blackpool captain Charlie Adam after he also suffered relegation to the Championship.
“I don’t think the manager is interested in him,” said the Stoke chairman. “He’s not mentioned him to me so I assume he’s not interested in him.”
