John Njoroge 1 June 2011 Kampala — Tractors and graders branded European Union (EU) and not PAMSU Project worked on several roads in and around the Murchison Falls National Park, Mr Zahid Alam, a PAMSU Commission of Inquiry witness said yesterday. The commission is investigating how Shs85.5 billion ($38 million) in grant and loan money from the World Bank was spent by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in a project, the Protected Areas Management for Sustainable Use (PAMSU), between 2002 and 2008.

Nairobi — Publishing firm Moran has acquired Macmillan Uganda Ltd a few months after taking over the majority stake in the Kenyan unit.

Moran Publishers has purchased majority shareholding of the Ugandan operation for an undisclosed amount, as local publishers gain footing in the industry that has seen a number of foreign owned firms disinvest.

“This sale to Moran Publishers empowers strong and locally-directed educational publishing businesses in Africa. The Ugandan market will provide great opportunities for Moran Publishers to become a substantial presence in East Africa and we will observe their progress with great interest,” said Macmillan chief executive officer Annette Thomas.
