Hamburg

Hamburg have signed Michael Mancienne from Chelsea on a four-year contract but have not disclosed the transfer fee paid to the English side.

The Bundesliga outfit revealed the recruitment of the defender on their official website on Tuesday evening, and the 23-year-old himself is delighted to have the move from England to Germany.

“HSV are a large and long-established club with fantastic fans,” he said on Hamburg’s official website. “It is a great challenge for me to be playing for this club.”

Mancienne, who can feature as a centre-back as well as a defensive midfielder, developed at Chelsea’s youth academy but failed to establish himself as a regular of the first team. He spent 2010-11 on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
