Timothy Sichela 30 May 2011 ZAMBIAN champions Zesco yesterday left themselves with another upheal battle in North Africa after securing only a narrow victory over Maghreb Association Sportive (MAS) of Morocco in the first of the two-legged elimination tie for the right to contest the group phase of the Confederations Cup. After bowing out of contention from the 2011 CAF Orange Champions' League at the hands of Cairo giants and six time African champions Al Ahly last month via a 1-0 aggregate score, Zesco created enough chances to kill off the return leg in Morocco by securing a comprehensive win, but they only manage a goal. Substitute Derrick Kabwe headed home a Potipher Zulu cross on 62 minutes, a minute after his earlier effort was tipped over the crossbar by MAS goalkeeper Znito Anas, coming some four minutes after replacing Nicholas Zulu.

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has shamed prophets of doom and those that doubted his capacity of bringing development to Zambia as witnessed by massive development projects worth billions of Kwacha around the country, an MMD official has said.

Lusaka Province information and publicity secretary Greenock Lupambo said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that development projects that the president had initiated were a clear testimony of his commitment to alleviate the suffering for the people of Zambia.

Mr Lupambo said the just ended rally in Mandevu also confirmed President Banda’s popularity in Lusaka which was previously the opposition stronghold.

The opposition would be in for a rude shock as the MMD would win this year’s election with landslide results.

“The response from the people of Mandevu was positive, this indicates that MMD is becoming more and more popular,” he said.

He said the opposition should not expect to have it easy and think they were still popular in Lusaka as evidenced from the large crowds that turned up for President Banda’s rally.

Mr Lupambo also warned former Lands Minister Judith Kapijimpanga to stop “hallucinating” that MMD would lose elections.

He said Ms Kapijimpanga was once a minister and Member of Parliament and yet she never implemented any development project.

She advised Ms Kapijimpanga to stop commenting on issues surrounding Western Province as she did not understand anything and had no authority on the matter.
