30 May 2011 Last updated at 10:44 ET Gen Martin Dempsey has been nominated as the new chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, the highest US military post. A veteran of the Iraq war, Army Chief of Staff Dempsey will succeed Navy Admiral Mike Mullen as the president's top military adviser on 30 September. President Obama made the announcement in the White House garden but it is subject to Senate approval.

She’s currently readying to embark on another tour, but Britney Spears was all about a casual afternoon as she stepped out with boyfriend Jason Trawick in Los Angeles, CA on Sunday (May 29).

The “Hold It Against Me” singer flaunted a new hairdo, as her blonde locks got a bit of flare with a red stripe as she and her man wandered the grounds of the Topanga Mall.

As for her upcoming tour efforts, Miss Spears just took to Twitter to tease that the “Femme Fatale” dates will be announced anytime now.

Britney wrote, “New tour dates being announced tmw. Stay tuned to see what part of the world my #FemmeFataleTour will be traveling to next tweetiepies -Brit”
