Kampala — Dennis Onyango only spent a few hours here and flew back to South Africa yesterday morning in what is believed to be a move aimed at joining another Premier Soccer League (PSL) club. Uganda Cranes goalkeeper is expected to be back in town in time for residential training which starts tomorrow if he gets a new club contract.
Rumour has it that he will sign for either Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs or Maritzburg United after his contract with relegated Mpumalanga Black Aces expired. This newspaper reported yesterday that he will sign with his new club today, something confirmed by his decision to travel after only arriving on Wednesday.
A source tells Saturday Monitor that he will sign a three-year deal with Sundowns with veteran Brian Baloyi retiring.
He remained non-committal on where he is headed. “There are three options and it means a lot to me. My agent (Ivica Stankovic) is finalising things and by the end of business on Saturday, my next destination will be known,” said Onyango. His presence will be immense when Cranes face Guinea Bissau at Namboole Stadium in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on June 4.
Coach Bobby Williamson must be pleased with the current influx of professionals. Hassan Wasswa, Geoffrey Sserunkuma and David Obua arrived earlier this week. Andrew Mwesigwa, Joseph Kabagambe, Isaac Isinde and Geoffrey Massa are expected in the country tomorrow.
