Doha — The Mediation announced that Darfur peace negotiations through Doha forum will remain open for all the parties that have desire to reach a peaceful settlement for Darfur issue and putting an end to the suffering of the affected people in the region.
The Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed bin Abdalla Al-Mahmoud, and the Joint UN and African Union mediator for Darfur issue, Djibril Bassole, issued a statement which indicated that the government delegation headed by Dr. Amin Hassan Omer, and the delegation of the Liberation Movement, headed by Dr. Tigani Sessi, have returned to Doha to resume the peace negotiations.
The statement said that the Justice and Equality Movement did not yet respond to the invitation extended to it by the mediation. The joint Mediation stated that it held on Sunday separate preparatory meetings with the two parties to discuss the issue of the timetable which was forwarded by the mediation and to reach agreement on it, including the organizational form of the talks. In its statement, the Mediation indicated that the upcoming major negotiations will be conducted on the basis of the Framework Agreement for Solving Darfur Issue and the cease-fire agreement which were signed on March 18, 2010 and the Doha Declaration that was issued by the consultative meeting of the Darfurian civil society in November 20, 2009.
Meanwhile, the Joint Mediation called on the delegations of the government and the Justice and Liberation Movement to meet with it on Monday noon for completing the consultations on the procedural issue prior to commencing the direct negotiations.
