Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic says he is honoured to lead the club out in the Champions League final and believes his side have the mental edge.
United and opponents Barcelona both won their domestic league titles and Vidic believes that will take some pressure of his side going into the final.
“First of all, I am honoured to be captain of such a big club and able to lead this team into such a big game,” Vidic said to The Mirror.
“At the end of any season, if you finish without a trophy you will not be satisfied, so that was our first target for this campaign.
“Now, of course, we have already won the Premier League so it means we’ve been able to focus for a couple of weeks on this game.”
Manchester United have a mix of experience’s going into the final with Ryan Giggs and Javier Hernandez both at opposite ends of their careers but Vidic believes that blend could give them an edge.
The captain said: “We have to make sure we do all our stuff just as we normally would for any game.
“Of course, we have prepared more than usual – we’ve had two weeks to think about this match, focus on it and what we want to do.
“But the key is that we make sure we do all the normal things and that we are ready mentally. Psychologically, we are in the right shape – we believe that.
“We also know that, because we play so many games, we are fit. Now it is purely about just trying to prepare for the big game psychologically, to be right in our minds about what we need to do.
“But I think we have that. At United, we have many mature players – ones who have lots of experience in their career.
“They know what needs to be done and who can help the younger players to be prepared.”
