Tottenham star Gareth Bale believes his side can finish above bitter north London rivals Arsenal next season.

The Welsh wideman conceded, though, that Spurs must be more merciless against lower teams if they are to climb that final rung on the league ladder, having dropped points against the West Broms and Wigans on the world this season.

Spurs ended up in fifth spot, six points behind Arsene Wenger’s men.

“There’s no reason why we can’t finish above them,” Bale told reporters.

“We have a great squad, great players who are still young and we are playing great football.

“If we keep progressing like we have done this year, maybe get a few more players in the squad, then there is no reason why not.”

The 21-year-old echoed team-mate William Gallas’ recent call for consistency, particularly against lesser opposition, in order to achieve success at White Hart Lane.

“I think we can achieve something big,” he continued. “We can win the league inside a few years, definitely.

“If we are more consistent against the lower teams in the league then there’s every chance of doing what we want to do.”
