It has gone a period over nine months since the bill seeking the permanent existing of the Law Reform Commission went into coma in the low House since it was passed and sent to the House of Representatives for concurrence by the Liberian senate in some time 2010.

But as the saying rightly goes in Liberia, that ‘Old Soldier never die” so it with a Liberian lawyer serving in the 52nd National Legislature as senator for Sinoe County, Cllr. Joseph Nagbe, in an interviewed Thursday at the Capitol Building in Monrovia, rewind the dead spirit of the bill that currently dragging on the shelve of the lower house to be considered by his colleagues to approve the passage of the Law Reform Commission Act for onward signing by the president and subsequently printed.

The bill seeking the establishment of the Law Reform Commission when pass into law, Cllr. Nagbe said the commission will form the basic for the rule of law and would be involved with research works that center on laws, especially those laws that create conflict in their very existing, to make proposals for changes for amendment or some of the laws are repeal.

According Sen. Nagbe, the existing of the Law Reform Commission is very critical to the national efforts  of not only reforming the judiciary but ensure that the rule of law become the foundation of a sustained democracy in Liberia.

Giving justification why the Law Reform Commission act should pass into the law by the national legislature, Sen. Joseph Nagbe said the current status under which the commission is operating was an executive order therefore needed to transcend such an arrangement to be have a full legal status that would bind the mandate the Law Reform Commission in scope of operation and functions.

Members of the legislature especially the Liberian senate, the Sinoe County senator indicated have undertaken the need to have the status of that commission be regularize prominently by passing the bill into law for the lower house import.

Sen. Nagbe is calling on members of the House of Representatives to the need in concurring with the Liberian senate so that Law Reform Commission can have the power to operate within it legal mandate for which has been created.

Though Sen. Nagbe noted that current existing of the commission was not an embarrassment but by it operating on an executive order gives the commission the mandate to only operate for the period of one year and after which the president will have to issue another executive order for the existing or operation of the commission some he said was a too much headache for the president and needed to be done away with due to the importance of the commission to Liberia
