FORMER Zambian leader Frederick Chiluba has described President Rupiah Banda as a credible candidate who deserves the support he is enjoying and to continue with the economic development agenda he is rolling out. Dr Chiluba said President Banda had delivered economic development to the Zambian people, which was real despite the attacks he was receiving from opposition leaders such as Patriotic front (PF) leader Michael Sata.

He said he was enjoying working with Mr Banda because of his efficiency in delivering what he desired for the people and had demonstrated that he was capable of standing up to the challenge of leading Zambia. Dr Chiluba said this in an interview when President Banda led several dignitaries in laying wreaths at the Freedom Statue ahead of the commemoration of the Africa Freedom Day that took place at the Show Grounds in Lusaka yesterday.

He said Mr Banda was a focused leader and that his character was inspiring going by his activities in promoting unity and economic development in Zambia. Dr Chiluba also said Western Province would remain united with the rest of Zambia, and that Zambians should stop listening to Mr Sata who was aware about the history of the province having served as minister of Local Government.

“We must remember that we are all Zambians and we will remain united. We must be happy that we are independent,” Dr Chiluba said.â-¨Zambians should not allow any disruptions to Zambia’s continued peace and development but support efforts aimed at developing the country.â-¨The former president said Zambians would judge leaders on the basis of their actions and not how much they spoke.

“The beauty of democracy is that people are given chance to choose leaders and democracy is not about speaking for 24 hours. Some leaders speak louder but people know,” Dr Chiluba said.
