NII LANTEY Vanderpuye, a special aide to President Mills on political operations at the Castle, has called the bluff of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings, founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stressing that the ruling party is capable of winning the 2012 polls without the effort of the founder. Nii Lantey, who has his eye on the Odododiodioo parliamentary seat, said the founder had the right to decide not to campaign for the party but that would not prevent the NDC from winning the 2012 elections. The ex-President had said at the formal launch of his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’s campaign bid for the NDC presidential slot that he could not campaign for the party in 2012, should President Mills be retained as the party’s standard bearer

A twenty-five-year-old lady, claiming to have been impregnated by her ‘boyfriend’, Kofi Adams, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and has refused to cater for her, has been dragged before the TDC Court together with her boyfriend on charges of conspiracy to commit crime and deceiving public officer.

The accused, Tracy Morrison, who is about eight months pregnant, was said to have reported that Kofi impregnated and left her stranded with nowhere to sleep. But it has been revealed that she was impregnated by her boyfriend, Jeremy Ekow Amissah, 40, who she introduced as her cousin.

She was said to have told police that she was a student of Central University College while her ‘cousin’ Jeremy was a computer technician. She however pleaded guilty to the charges while her boyfriend pleaded not guilty.

Narrating the facts of the case in court, the prosecutor, Inspector Salifu Yahaya told the court presided over by Mrs. Johanna Yankson that on April 26, 2011, the two accused persons came to the Tema Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and reported that Kofi Adams, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, had impregnated the first accused and had refused to take care of her and also kicked her out of a room he rented for her.

He said the police then invited Kofi Adams for interrogations where it was revealed that what the accused persons reported was a calculated attempt to blackmail him.

According to the prosecutor, she later told police that Kofi Adams had never had any sexual intercourse with her, adding that she approached him during the latter part of 2010 in his office to assist her pay her fees for the last two semesters at the Central University, which he did and later gave her a room in his newly-rented apartment at Community 22 in Tema.

She said she later introduced the second accused person, her boyfriend, as a cousin and pleaded with him to move into the house, to which he agreed. The prosecutor added that Kofi Adams later asked her to move out of the house for insulting his caretaker, an elderly man, and also putting up an unwanted behavior but this did not go down well with Tracy and her boyfriend.

He said police investigations however revealed that she was not a student at the said university and that she had planned to blackmail Kofi Adams and had even gone to Abeiku Santana of Okay FM on several occasions to put the issue in the public domain. He indicated that having considered the totality of evidence, the police had no option but to charge the two with the offence after investigations.
They were subsequently arraigned.

Tracy noted in court that she came up with the allegation because she had nowhere to go and did that so that she would be made to stay in the house. The judge, during her sentence, considered Tracy’s situation and fined her GH¢120 while her boyfriend, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded into police custody for further investigations.
