The Association of Liberian Construction Contractors (ALCC) has rejected claims from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and some officials of government over the rampant condemnation on the performance of Liberian Construction Contractors.

In a Press Statement released yesterday, the ALCC said the condemnation of Pealat Liberia Incorporated for alleged contract default or failing to implement the Belleh Yallah Road Project cannot be blamed on the lack of the capability and capacity of Liberian Construction Contractors, rather political expediency which dwarfs all others required standards in the construction industry.

The statement signed by the ALCC President, Mr. Foday M. Kamara, said the invectives carried in the mass media have the propensity to undermine the ongoing partnership arrangements with overseas construction companies initiated by the Liberian Construction Contractors.

The statement of the ALCC comes against the backdrop of wildcat allegation and condemnation including legal actions against Liberian contractors for alleged contract default and failure to implement works.

The ALCC said the President reference to Liberian Construction Contractors of lack of capital and capacity should not be used as a basis of failing to complete project because prior to the awarding of contract, Due Diligence was carried out and the award was fraudulent, adding “those in authority are either awarding contracts to cronies or awarding contracts for kick-backs”.

The association the wonders whether the due diligence result that form one of the strong basis why Pealat was more qualified to be awarded the contract was fake.

The ALCC statement insists that when contracts awarded after a genuine due diligence is done, satisfactory performance is guaranteed.

The Association said it wish to remind the public that before the awarding of the contract to the company it wrote the ministry informing it that Pealat was an unknown entity in the construction industry, especially in the road sector, and express the reservations on Pealat’s capacity and capability to execute a primary road in Liberia, but this was ignored by the ministry authority.

As regards the law suit filed by the Ministry of Public Works against contractors the ALCC president said he will react appropriately in the subsequently release.

Meanwhile, the ALCC is calling on the Ministry of Public Work s to implement the prescribed road map to remedy the situation of capacity constraints facing the Liberian Construction Contractors, as have been discussed at almost all conferences in the presence of international development partners.
