FIFTEEN Ethiopian nationals were arrested in a major police swoop within Eastleigh on Monday night. The illegal immigrants were rounded up along 11th Avenue, according to Nairobi police commander Antony Kibuchi.

City police have in recent months rounded up illegal immigrants especially those from Somalia and Ethiopia. This year alone, more than 600 aliens have been arrested in Nairobi alone. “The suspects had no documentation on them and we shall arraign them in court for being in the country illegally,” said Kibuchi. Elsewhere, a Congolese man on the run from his country on suspected murder charges was arrested in Nairobi on Monday.

The man was arrested at UNCHR offices in Kileleshwa while seeking asylum status. Local police who had been tipped about the man’s presence in the country trailed him after yet another tip-off from the UN refugee officers. Police confirmed that the man will be repatriated to face charges in his native country.

Elsewhere in Mwiki, two suspected robbers were arrested after robbing a resident his car yesterday. The two were found driving a Toyota Corolla with registration numbers KAN 849 B which they had stolen from a man within Thindigua area. Inside the car, police said they also recovered a toy pistol.
